Layering a Bed with Serena & Lily

Brad and I recently relocated back home to Florida and are lucky enough to be staying in a spare room at my mother-in-law’s while we look for a house. We figured we might as well make ourselves comfortable and she was kind enough to let me re-decorate the room!

Here is the before photo and my moodboard:

Not long after we moved, Serena & Lily reached out to partner with me. What timing! I knew right away that I wanted to try out their bedding. To me, it’s the most important element of a bedroom and I always look for pieces that are beautiful and high-quality.

Linen Sheets

I had never slept in linen sheets until we outfitted our previous bedroom with them. I was totally missing out! Linen is the best fabric for temperature regulation and even though it’s thought of as a “summer” material, it actually helps keep you warm in cooler weather too. The Cavallo Linen sheets (in Smoke Chambray) are no exception. They’ve gone through a few washes now and they have softened up so nicely. (Hint: to speed up the softening process, add 1/2 a cup of baking soda to the wash!)

Did you know? It’s easy to keep your linen sheets wrinkle-free. Simply take them out of the dryer while they are still a bit damp. Put them on your bed and smooth them out as you go. Linen is great at absorbing moisture and dries very quickly – so don’t worry, they’ll be dry in no time!

Cotton Coverlet

Since it’s warm year-round in South Florida, I opted for a light cotton coverlet as our main layer rather than a duvet. The waffle weave on the Montauk Coverlet (in Fog) makes it breathable but also gives it some nice texture to contrast with the bed and sheets.

I ordered the matching euro sham covers with it as well. Darn if these things are SO comfy! They make the perfect prop for reading…or binge watching terrible tv.

Linen Duvet

The final layer is a breezy linen duvet – folded in thirds at the foot of the bed, accessible for those few days a year when we need some extra warmth. It’s also a great spot to throw a suitcase for packing or for furry pets. It helps protect the coverlet and prevents stains and snags. Plus, it just looks so good!

Hint: To get enough length on the sides, lay your quilt sideways! It will still be plenty long to cover your feet when in use and looks extra “finished” when folded.

Lighting

This Flynn Table Lamp is actually meant for my desk but our bedside lamps haven’t arrived yet so I thought I’d use it as a stand-in. I actually love the way it looks! It’s nice and tall but the best part is that it’s slim base takes up very little surface space – something that is really important in this tiny room. You can also order it with a rattan shade which is appropriately coastal!

I can’t wait to finish up this space and show you the full reveal! Subscribe below so you don’t miss it!
