One Room Challenge: Reveal!

Revealing our guest room after making it over as part of the 6 Week One Room Challenge!

Disclosure: Sometimes I use affiliate links which could earn me a  small commission if you buy something after clicking one – all of which I will spend on making sure I’m my dog’s favorite human. (Sorry, Brad.)

UPDATE! Check out the end of the post for a re-styling of the little desk nook in this room AND the formula for styling right every time.

First, remember the before pictures? This room went through several transformations while I tried (and failed) to find a style that really suited me.

I think I’ve finally hit my stride and now, I think this room resembles my true aesthetic more than any other room in the house.

I am forever a fan of Coyuchi now. Those nightstands are handmade to order and the blue bed blanket is soft as butter.
Curtains can be so transformative in a room. I took mine up to the ceiling to keep things feeling open. I would have loved to go with a warmer color to really frame out the space, but I’ll save custom curtains for our forever home. White linen is a great go-to for any space.
I am so glad I chose to reupholster the bed instead of springing for a new one. It left room in the budget for my favorite piece of all – this lamp! The panoramic frame is from pictureframes.com. The oversized mat is custom from matboardandmore.com – they were the only company I could find that would make something in these dimensions. Oversized mats are a great way to make a statement while maintaining that sense of calmness in a room.
I ordered this beautiful digital download of the sailboat painting and had it printed on canvas at Uprinting.com. The distressed gold frame is Caitlin Wilson and brings a little old world charm to the space. I would have sprung for a larger one had I known I was going to hang it but that’s a project for another day. The speckled vase is a last minute addition from Target!
This guest room gets a ton of use so it needs to be truly functional, including the closet! And my favorite part of this view is my art. I couldn’t part with my beloved DIY Bali Surfers print. I took that picture in Bali myself, printed it on to engineering paper and transposed it onto canvas by hand. Then I distressed, sealed AND framed it. It’s staying with me forever!
A vanity doubles as a second desk when Brad and I are both working from home. The Greek key is a nod to the other old-world accents in the room – a vintage touch without the price! The rattan chair brings things back to this century and warms up all of the gray.
Isn’t that the best $5 vase you’ve ever seen? The trinket dish is a vintage piece from Etsy – and even though it’s advertised that way, I’m fairly certain it’s an ash tray [insert OOPS face here!]. Either way, another nod to the brass and old-world accents in the room.

Thank you so much Nicole! Had our first round of guests in the new room and they loved it too – so I think it was a win!
